You'd never think to seek out some Middle Eastern-inspired relaxation in a suburban strip mall. But that’s exactly where you’ll find this hookah lounge, sandwiched between a record store and a bait shop in Tinley Park. Its location actually makes a lot of sense, if you think about it; after all, traveling to the high-stress city to unwind seems a counterproductive exercise.
Admittedly, the most impressive thing about this hookah bar is its outdoor patio seating. Walking in, you'll see mostly tables and chairs comparable to the kiddie table at Thanksgiving dinner. If you're looking for a more traditional hookah environment (deep colors, throw pillows, floor seating), this may not be the place for you. Those who are there for the rich flavored tobacco, though, will find Sahara to be more than fulfilling.
To make up for the furniture, the tables are decorated with stones and candles that are easy on the eyes. Look around and you'll see shelves dedicated to various-sized hookahs. Prices aren't too bad either, as hookahs range from $11.50-$15. Lunch and dinner are available with items like hummus, falafel, barbecue chicken kabobs and an assortment of sandwiches served.
One thing to beware of is that the soundtrack here ranges from Creed, to well, Creed. The good news is, you'll be right next to a record store, so musical solace will be just steps away.
