Dave Miller

Dave Miller is becoming one of the strong, young forces to be reckoned with in the already rich jazz/expmerimental/rock scene of Chicago. So far, Miller has already performed at the 2004 Chicago Jazz Festival with Ted Sirota’s Rebel Souls, as well as appearances at Millenium Park, the Around the Coyote Winter Festival, the Ice Factory Jazz Pride Parade, the Green Mill, the Double Door, the Elbo Room, Subterranean, Elastic, the Jazz Record Mart, the Hungry Brain, the Empty Bottle, Pete Miller’s Steakhouse, the Chicago Cultural Center, Katerina’s, Rodan, Martyrs’, the Velvet Lounge, Andy’s, and the Hothouse.

Miller’s resume of collaborators reads like a who’s who of Chicago jazz and improvised music stars. He has performed or recorded with Ron Perrillo, Dennis Carroll, George Fludas, Ted Sirota, Jeb Bishop, Dana Hall, Geof Bradfield, Tim Daisy, Anton Hatwich, Jason Stein, Pete Benson, Clark Sommers, David Boykin, Pherez Whitted, Matt Ulery, Jason Ajemian, Andreas Kapsalis, Kobe Watkins, Jake Vinsel, Josh Abrams, Art Davis, John Herndon, Nori Tanaka, Jeff Parker, Greg Ward, Michael Raynor, Rob Clearfield, Tom Garling, Keefe Jackson, Nick Broste, Larry Kohut, Matt Ferguson, John Wojochowshi, John Goldman, Greg Wyser Pratte, and Frank D’Rone.

Miller has also performed with internationally renowned jazz starts such as Conrad Herwig, Eddie Henderson, Donald Harrison, Steve Coleman, Mark Turner, Eric Alexander, Mike LeDonne, John Hollenbeck, Theo Bleckmann, and Joe Farnsworth. Miller’s guitar playing has been praised by jazz guitar masters Peter Bernstein, Bobby Broom, and Jeff Parker.

In addition to his talents in guitar performance, Miller has also become known and respected as a serious composer, mainly from the output of his experimental indie jazz group, Algernon (www.myspace.com/algernonmusic). Since the birth of this band, Miller has been commissioned to write pieces for classical guitar, theatre score, and film score. Algernon performs regularly in Chicago/Midwest area and have a new album due out in 2007 entitled "Familiar Espionage."
