If you go over the hills and through the woods, you're likely to stumble upon Ashbary Coffee House. Although not quite grandma's house, this place brews java and hot drinks that are sure to warm your spirit just like her concoctions.
This cottage-style shop, family owned and operated, is a true gem for people looking to slow down and enjoy not only fabulous coffee elixirs like Rocky Road cappuccinos and white chocolate mochas (all reasonably priced at around $5) but also hearty fixings like paninis, salads and soup.
Much of the crowd consists of young, tight-jeaned teens looking to break into the indie-music scene. Ashbary is certainly the place for aspiring artists; it hosts live music Friday and Saturday nights as well as poetry readings on Tuesdays, an open mic on Wednesdays and comedy improv on Thursdays.
In the summer months, push your way through the herd of greasy-haired hipsters overpopulating the outdoor porch, take your $4 milkshake (made with real ice cream, none of that frozen yogurt nonsense here), fight off the mosquitoes and enjoy the impromptu strummings of aspiring guitbox players.
