If heaven were a theme party (and how could it not be?), Berlin would be my own personal nirvana. Its amazing weekly lineup of titillating theme parties include nights like "Women's Obsession Wednesday," where they've been known to throw a tarp down on the dance floor so gals can wrestle in KY jelly. The last Sunday of the month is dedicated exclusively to the music of Prince, which is sponsored by the Official Prince Fan Club (did you know there was an
official Prince Fan Club?) and features collector's edition music, rare video footage, interviews and authorized Paisley Productions merchandise. There's something for the material girls, too: Berlin's monthly Madonna Madness (held on the first Sunday of the month).
With its dual bar areas, raised stages for go-go dancing and world-renowned DJs, Berlin is a place for serious partiers. And like all good parties, the real action doesn't start until late into the night, around 1 a.m., so don't arrive too early.
Beer on tap will set you back $5; spend the money (cheaper domestic bottles like Miller Lite are just as expensive at $4.25) or go with a strong $4.50 well drink. While Berlin may be in the heart of gay central (underneath the Belmont L stop), its clientele runs the sexual gamut and always present an inclusive vibe. If you're touchy about being touched, take heed on the dance floor—Berlin has an unspoken no-barriers policy and wandering hands abound. Either way, bring your dancin' shoes, some KY jelly and be prepared for anything to happen; at Berlin the wall is always coming down.
