What's wilier than a pug wearing a spiky leatherman collar? Knowing that same pug, the quintessential gay yuppie dog, is owned by the great Oscar Wilde. That's the concept behind this new
Uptown bar and dance spot opened by Steve Milford and Brian Wells, the owners of
Crew Bar + Grill (it's two doors down). So where's the "e" on "wild"? That's for later in this venue write-up. For now, let's take a walk through the Pug.
With nearly floor-to-ceiling windows in front, patrons inside get a great glimpse of this quickly gentrifying pocket of Uptown. Walking into the main space of this bar, you'll notice a bit of Crew influence in the high tables and bar stools. Snag the comfy leather couch in front of the white stone fireplace, where a portrait of Wilde with a supposed wild pug hangs.
Dance music blasts loud throughout this place, so if you're looking for a quiet drink with friends, go somewhere else. If you'd like to drink then hit the dance floor in back, where green, blue and red patterns bounce underneath shuffling feet, definitely stay. Two electronic dart machines in front and shiny flat-screen TVs that either show live-feed from the dance floor or some sports game give you some other eye candy. It's a mostly gay male clientele populates, but we caught a few lady lookers, too. And with a selection of 14 beers on tap and some fancy hard liquors, it's hard not to get comfy.
Still wondering about the less "e" in this place's name? Let's just say Oscar gets around.
